Lune vs BibGenie

BibGenie runs an agent natively in Zotero: it searches your library, analyzes papers, pulls in new ones through OpenAlex and keeps citations traceable. Lune runs in your editor instead, over papers read in full.

Start with the one you should not buy from us

If the first list is you, take BibGenie.

Choose BibGenie if

  • Zotero is your workspace and you want the agent to live there.
  • You want to bring your own model, including Ollama or LM Studio.
  • Credit-based pricing with a lifetime option suits you.

Choose Lune if

  • You want depth inside top venues rather than breadth across OpenAlex.
  • You need a quote and locator for each claim in a draft.

Where the difference comes from

OpenAlex breadth against venue depth

BibGenie reaches outside your library through OpenAlex, which covers essentially everything with a DOI. That is the right call for a reference manager, where the job is to find the item and file it correctly.

Lune indexes far less and reads all of it. The trade shows up when you need the number in section 4.2 rather than the record for the paper that contains it.

Filing a citation, or defending one

A reference manager's promise is that the citation resolves: the right authors, the right year, the right DOI. BibGenie keeps that traceable, and that matters.

The failure Lune is built for happens after the citation resolves, when the paper turns out not to support the sentence. verify_claims answers with the supporting quote or reports that it found none.

What we read

Questions

Is Lune a BibGenie alternative?
For discovery and claim checking, yes. For managing a Zotero library with an agent inside it, BibGenie is purpose-built and Lune is not.
Which covers more papers?
BibGenie, through OpenAlex. Lune covers top-tier venues and reads them in full instead.
Can I bring my own model to Lune?
No. Lune returns evidence to whatever client you already use, and that client's model does the reasoning.
