Characterizing Performance, Power, and Energy of AMD CDNA3 GPU Family
Bagus Hanindhito, Bhavesh Patel
Abstract
While historically used for graphics applications, Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have become the most prominent hardware for accelerating parallel workloads, including HPC and AI/ML. As the demand for GPUs skyrockets, AMD released the CDNA3 architecture to accelerate HPC and generative AI. This paper serves as a comprehensive third-party evaluation of the AMD CDNA3 GPU, specifically the MI300X and MI325X, by characterizing their performance, power, and energy efficiency using microbenchmark and real-world applications.
