# Lune vs SciSummary

SciSummary does one thing and prices it accordingly: send a paper, get a structured summary, ask about the figures. Lune is aimed at the step before and the step after.

## Choose SciSummary if

- Your inbox is full of PDFs and reading time is the only problem.
- You want figure interpretation and bulk summaries for a few dollars.
- Your papers come from journals Lune does not index.

## Choose Lune if

- You do not yet know which papers matter.
- You need quotes that survive a reviewer opening the reference.
- You compare methods and want a table, not a stack of summaries.

## From a question to a citation

SciSummary: Send a paper -> Summarize it -> A shorter paper.
Lune: Find the papers -> Read the full text -> Quote with a locator.

One shortens a paper you have. The other finds it and pulls the line out.

## Line by line

| Dimension | Lune | SciSummary |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The job it does | Find, quote, compare and verify across a curated index. | Summarize and explain papers you supply. |
| Discovery | Search, sweep and related-paper tools over the index. | You bring the papers. |
| How deep a citation goes | A verbatim quote and its locator, per claim. | Summaries preserve the paper's own citations. |
| Agent access | MCP and a CLI, on every plan. | A ChatGPT connector, published as an MCP server. |
| Entry price | $4.99 a month ($47.90 a year), or free for 10 requests a day. | $4 a month, billed as $48 a year. |

## Two different bottlenecks

If you already have the twenty papers that matter and cannot get through them, SciSummary is the cheaper and more direct answer. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

Lune's bottleneck starts earlier. Which twenty papers? Which of them reports the number you are about to cite? Was the method proposed in the paper everyone credits, or in the one it cites? That needs an index and a citation graph.

## A summary is a lossy copy

Summaries are useful, and they are exactly where precision goes missing. A number loses its confidence interval. A claim loses the condition it held under. A limitation the authors stated plainly becomes a caveat that did not fit.

Lune keeps the original text in reach, so your agent can still summarize, then go back to the source without leaving the conversation.

## Questions

### Is Lune a SciSummary alternative?

Only if your problem is finding and verifying rather than reading. For bulk summarizing of papers you hold, SciSummary is cheaper and more direct.

### Does Lune summarize papers?

Your agent does, from full text Lune returns. There is no separate summarizing product.

### Is Lune cheaper?

No. SciSummary works out to $4 a month annually; Lune's Pro is $4.99 monthly. Lune's free plan is permanent rather than a trial.
